2008 Season Under Way

With a game having been played on the North American continent, a new season is truly under way. If the Nationals 3-2 thriller over the Braves is any indication of things to come, 2008 is going to be a fantastic year to be a baseball fan.

The word "perfect" gets thrown around alot in baseball. A 1-2-3 perfect inning. A 4 for 4 perfect night at the plate. And the oh-so rare 27 up/27 down perfect game. The Nats win to christen their new park is also being described as perfect. It was a great game, but, not quite perfect. The Nationals offense spent 7 innings in deep hibernation, Chad Cordero has a bum arm, and the Rauch blew the save in the 9th. All highly imperfect things and cause for a little concern.

BUT...

...the franchise player sending a walk-off game winner over the "Welcome Home" sign into the left field bleachers was as perfect of a moment asthe great game can provide. Zimmerman is the face of a Nationals franchise that has nowhere to go but up. There are going to be many memorable moments in the years to come at Nationals Park. Many will certainy involve Zimmerman. How fantastic that the park's life has begun with a moment that was not merely memorable. It was perfect!
